HEALTH & WELLNESS

Major life experiences, such as trauma or abuse are significant factors that adversely contribute to mental health (emotional, psychological, and social well-being). As a Veteran-owned business with a significant constituent of Veteran staff, TISTA is committed to doing our part in enhancing the quality of life of our Veterans suffering from mental health challenges, in addition to with those in underserved communities such as human trafficking victims, children, and senior citizens. We are also actively engaged in supporting the community by responding to new, dynamically-changing healthcare challenges introduced by the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Mental Health Grants

According to the National Institute of Mental Health, nearly one in five U.S. adults live with a mental illness (51.5 million in 2019). Homeless veterans are high risk for experiencing mental disorders, with studies showing the prevalence is double the percentages compared to domiciled veterans. Our programs include a partnership with US Vets to support hiring a Mental Health Therapist who provides treatments for homeless veterans (US Vets Washington DC Transition Home).

TISTA is a proud sponsor of the Out of the Darkness Walks organized by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP). These walks are held in hundreds of cities across the country and give people the courage to open up about their own struggle or loss, and the platform to change society’s approach to mental health.

Serve Meals

Initiated as a response to worsening food insecurity nation-wide due to the COVID-19 pandemic, TISTA’s Serve-a-Meal program began with a commitment to serve 3000 meals to vulnerable populations (veterans, homeless, and underserved families/children) and first responders.

Today, this program has grown with a commitment to serve at least 1500 meals per month. To date, we have served over 27,995 meals by working with community partners, local restaurants, and soup kitchens.

COVID-19 Response

The COVID-19 pandemic has placed unprecedented demands on the health care system; initially, this caused shortages in Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as masks and gloves. TISTA responded by sourcing PPEs for those who need them the most. We have sourced and distributed over 34,750 PPEs, at no cost, to first responders (firefighters, police officers, and healthcare professionals at hospitals and nursing homes).

We distribute PPEs to the homeless, veterans housed at shelters, underserved families/children, and inner-city school staff.

THE CHILDREN’S INN

TISTA has been a long-term partner and supporter of the Children’s Inn at NIH. From sponsoring meal services, coordinating “Wish List” to providing “Thoughtful Treasures” to the children and their families during the holidays, our Associates are passionate about giving back in our communities. The Children’s Inn at NIH has a special place in TISTA’s heart

SUBURBAN HOSPITAL

TISTA believes that strong partnerships can make a difference in our communities. The pandemic has amplified many issues in our communities, especially the under-served communities. Suburban Hospital in Bethesda, MD is a part of John’s Hopkins Medicine and on the front lines of responding to COVID patients and vaccine needs in our community. TISTA is proud to partner with the hospital and contribute to their COVID Fund to support efforts in education, equity, and research.
