Digital Equality
TISTA promotes digital inclusion by donating corporate computing devices to those in need. Personal technology, such as laptops, is essential for many communities to access direct services, search for employment, and continue education. Recipients include survivors of human trafficking, veterans, and students.
Scholarships
Partnerships with University of Maryland – Global Campus, University of Texas at Austin and University of Maryland SAFE Center: we support multiple programs that enable access to educational excellence for veterans, caregivers of wounded warriors, human trafficking survivors and minorities in technology.
Mental Health Support
According to the National Institute of Mental Health, nearly one in five U.S. adults live with a mental illness (51.5 million in 2019). Homeless veterans are high risk for experiencing mental disorders, with studies showing the prevalence is double the percentages compared to domiciled veterans. Our programs include a partnership with US Vets to support hiring a Mental Health Therapist who provides treatments for homeless veterans (US Vets Washington DC Transition Home).
THE CHILDREN'S INN
TISTA has been a long-term partner and supporter of the Children’s Inn at NIH. From sponsoring meal services, coordinating “Wish List” to providing “Thoughtful Treasures” to the children and their families during the holidays, our Associates are passionate about giving back in our communities. The Children’s Inn at NIH has a special place in TISTA’s heart
Housing Assistance
Housing is critical for human trafficking survivors and homeless veterans who are in transition to rebuild their lives. We work with community partners such as University of Maryland SAFE Center’s “Housing + Education” program, and Montgomery County Coalition for the Homeless to provide rental assistance for survivors and veterans that enables safe housing, employment, and educational pursuits.
Serve Meals
Initiated as a response to worsening food insecurity nation-wide due to the COVID-19 pandemic, TISTA’s Serve-a-Meal program began with a commitment to serve 3000 meals to vulnerable populations (veterans, homeless, and underserved families/children) and first responders. Today, this program has grown with a commitment to serve at least 1000 meals per month. To date, we have served over 27,995 meals by working with community partners, local restaurants, and soup kitchens.
COVID-19 Response
The COVID-19 pandemic has placed unprecedented demands on the health care system; initially, this caused shortages in Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as masks and gloves. TISTA responded by sourcing PPEs for those who need them the most. We have sourced and distributed over 34,750 PPEs, at no cost, to first responders (firefighters, police officers, and healthcare professionals at hospitals and nursing homes). We have also distributed PPEs to the homeless, veterans housed at shelters, underserved families/children, and inner-city school staff.
SUBURBAN HOSPITAL
TISTA believes that strong partnerships can make a difference in our communities. The pandemic has amplified many issues in our communities, especially the under-served communities. Suburban Hospital in Bethesda, MD is a part of John’s Hopkins Medicine and on the front lines of responding to COVID patients and vaccine needs in our community. TISTA is proud to partner with the hospital and contribute to their COVID Fund to support efforts in education, equity, and research.
